"Graduation is a time of completion, of finishing, of an ending,
however, it is also a time of celebration of achievement and a
beginning for the new graduate."
--Catherine Pulsifer
Yes, I survived my graduation ceremony. Phew! And thank god there were several familiar faces coz I was sure I didn't know anyone. Ahakz.
Hence, having worn the very Hogwarts' gown, the hood and the mortar board which makes me look like I have an apple-shaped face and the gown that is so heavy my shoulders ache.
Anyway, I didn't trip while on stage, I made good conversation with Rosemary Gosling who came all the way from London for this.So overall I am pleased.
A Big thank you to my parents and I am glad I made you guys proud as being the only graduate in my family. I am so sorry for wasting so much $$ throughout my Cedar Girls' Sec School days, my poly days and my Uni days. Eeks! But hey it's worth it right, I got my 2nd Class honours! whee! So who says people like my parents who may not be well-educated cannot produce and brainy child? =) So I am glad I went against that typical stereotyping. Thanks to my 1st brother too for his encouragement throughout all my school days though he isn't much help in helping me academically, it's always me fending for myself, with no tuition or whatsoever. And I made it, so I guess I have to thank myself too.
Thanks to my darling Mr GT and the bestie, Wahyu aka Nora Hanafi, who both graduated and have been supporting me and making sure I don't drop out halfway out of my program when I was going nuts with god knows how many 3000-word essays. Hah, no more 3000-word essays.
Ooh and my college actually produced the Top Students WORLDWIDE for HRM (like Rosemary said who said Singaporeans can't write English essays, won by Noor Eliza if I'm not wrong), Statistics 2 (this guy who got full 100% marks for it, crazy!) and this Information System guy who got the best project worldwide as well. So yay! We even had a 1st Class honours for Bsc Mathematics with Management which is one of the tougher degrees to go through since our college do not even have classes for majority of the modules, and this fab girl, Vidhi made it!
And also to Leslie, a 68 year old, who got his Bachelor of Laws (Hons). Kudos to him! Lifelong learning indeed. He's even featured in today's, Sunday Times. And he used to be assistant commissioner of police for like 10 years or something. And he received a special award, the most inspiring student award for inspiring us, students as well as even the lecturers, he so deserved the standing ovation.
It's over! FInally! Ok maybe not totally over, still thinking about doing an MBA or masters in something else but a break from the books for now.More pix on my Facebook come Monday...(gimme a break aite!).
the pain and cramps that come with your monthly period (applicable to women only, obviously). I just hate it when it occurs. I just feel so redundant. Pfft.
So I had to change the plan for my Dempsey Hill outing last night due to this irritating pain and that Mr GT had a last minute video assignment. But we still manage to grab dinner and went gift shopping.
On Friday, met Herman Slash for the treat. Thanx, Slash for the Ramenten treat. Yum! Gosh, I never had so many stuff laid on the table.I was a contented woman. *winks* While I was out with Slash for dinner, Mr GT was meeting Sarip for those 1-1 men talk or whatever you call it.
And Hani bunny was telling me the news on a certain someone's ex bf who is already moving on with a new girl. Well good for him that he's moved on with someone more cheery and smiley. You go boy! Contemplating on being friends again maybe...
Friday was not such a good day at work due to the bad news that affected a few people. But well I guess you just can't avoid this kinda things. It's part of life. Just thankful that at least I know my fate before that.
Mum just told me about this girl Khairunisa, well her name sonds so familiar and I remember she used to be with me in primary school and later in Cedar Girls, 1 year my senior. And she's gettng married. I'm sure Nurrul and Suraiya know who I am talking about, remember Cik Comel, that's her daughter. I wonder why people get the name Comel and then till they are old they are still called that. It really bugs me.
Talking about Mr GT, he reminded me of the time when I was waiting for my O level results in 2000, and we chatted on IRC, of coz me being me didn't bother replying when he emailed me (hello, how many creepy guys were there pouncing on sec sch girls back then,I am not that naive).
And 2 years later we met again at SP's PHR (he insists it was love at 1st sight..i don't believe in love at 1st sight), and he remembered my email address as THAT girl whom he emailed and didn't reply. Oh well, maybe I tried to escape from him and failed huh. Karma maybe. *shrugs* Lesson learnt: always change your email address so these incidents won't take place.
Herlina (Elyn) and Shahrul (Ayun) on the birth of your little princess this morning! Yay, you have popped finally. Can't wait to see you and the lil princess! All the best on your journey as mummy and daddy, I am sure you both make great parents! *hugs*
On another note, I am still aching from that hike up Bukit Timah on Saturday. Mr GT's idea of a romantic morning walk/exercise. Let's see where shall we go next weekend, maybe Gillman Village or Dempsey Hill, since it's been some time since we went there.Hmm...
Ooh Sherry just told me about one of the French colleagues in the office being hospitalised due to the Santika Club fire. hope he recovers soon! No wonder I didn't see him around to bug him on some overdue stuff.
After reading the bestie's entry, I decided to reflect on this past year. So here it goes, in 2008 I have:
1) graduated with 2nd class honours from LSE, University of London - like FINALLY!!! No more 3000-word essays!
2) entered the workforce and start earning my own moo-lah, no more allowances from my parents or elder brothers. Paying my own bills.
3) gone on a proper holiday with my darling Mr GT to Perth (not counting weekend getaways to neighbouring countries) and looking forward to more overseas holidays next year.
4) overcame drama like what the bestie said. Karma baby, you get what you give.
5) stopped clubbing. Have not set foot in a club in the whole entire year. Contrary to people thinking I am a wild party girl ( i have no idea where they get THAT idea from), I've been a good girl staying away from all forms of alcoholic drinks. And before that, it's not as if I am boozing away, just occasional drink here and there.
I suppose having gone clubbing/parting, and experimenting martinis, cocktails, margaritas etc between the age of 17-22, now I am more settled. I guess I am growing up.
It's better to do all these before I am married right. Like my mum said, "jangan nak buat giler" after marriage, must always preserve reputation of husband, self and family. So I guess I did purge all that out of my system and feel more settled now and just roll my eyes when I see people who have a late start in all these.
Especially if those people were the very people who preached high and all about religion and to see them doing the opposite, is so contradicting themselves. Tsk3.
6) spent SGD $12,040.62 as of this minute according to my Excel spreadsheet (haha, yes I still keep to it all this years). Hey at least I still keep within the $10K to $13K range.
7) curbed my shopping habit, very proud of not spending $500 in 1 shop in 15mins anymore.(still remember my darling's eyes bulging out when I did that)
8) gotten over the disappointment over my 2nd brother and his wife. Life has to go on. It's so much easier thinking that they do not exist.
9) learnt to be more patient and contented with life and honestly, life does look good from this perspective.
10) managed to better my relationships with my parents, 1st bro & sis-in-law, bestie, Mr GT and all the friends that matters to me, you girls and guys know who you are.
So that's all. I have yet to think of my new year resolutions. Will get back on that! Have a great Happy New Year everyone!
Merry X'mas to all those celebrating and those who just want to get into the festive mood. Like me! Love the lil xmas pressies so far from colleagues, far away mates (thanx, Zachary, I totally forgot about you! OOps! But gifts all the way frm Germany and from Max who is still trooping around in South Africa, go back and finish your studies in the US, geez! ) and from my darling of course.
Anyway what have I been up to besides last min Xmas shopping though frankly I am broke? Well last Sunday, attended Rozi's wedding! Congrats to Rozi and Helmi on your wedding, may you be blessed with a happy marriage with loads of love and laughter to accompany you throughout the rest of your life. Thanx for inviting me despite not having seen the babe since NYP graduation.
Here's some random pix:
What shall I do for New Year's Eve eh? I got a wedding dinner to attend at The Legends at Fort Canning, the dad's sort of relative/friend's son is getting married to a Chinese girl (Ooh and they got a new fab bungalow and really cute Persian cat (which reminds me of my cats, Scooby and Baby who passed away in the last 2 to 3yrs, sobz) and still yet to plan for what to do thereafter. Hmm...
I am going to go watch Twilight tomorrow!!! Whee! I can't wait. *grinz* And a whole day spin in the 1st bro's car!
PS: To those peeps who shamelessly asked me for free ZoukOut tix, sorry but just coz I gave them to you last year doesn't mean that I will automatically reserve them for you every year. Pfft. I gave them out WAY early to those who deserved it. And you obviously don't deserve them! (I hate people who contact you just to get freebies but disappear the rest of the year.)
Off to sleep now, I'm shagged after taking half-day to go visit Mr GT's grandma in JB to accompany my darling to pass a belated bday gift. And what a jam. I say Go Public, Don't Drive!
I have been posting up the status updates in my Facebook daily post lunch and last week was full of sleep inducing lunches and dinners.
Tuesday - colleagues ordered nasi lemak
Wednesday - KFC
Thursday - Carl's Jr
Friday - colleagues ordered chicken briyani
Saturday - Q-ed up for 1.5hr for 3 scoops of exclusive ice cream at Ben & Jerry's Chunk Fest at Fort Canning Green, good live bands too. Bumped into former colleague from Creative Technology,Faezah there.
Sunday - spent whole day at my darling Mr GT's grandma place. Trooped down to City Sq for Baskin Robbins ice creams. 3 freaking huge scoops for RM22, so worth it. Then of coz traditional dishes for eve of Hari Raya Haji
Monday - spent it with parents since I wasn't here during Hari Raya Puasa. More food! Managed to go watch Wild Child. Now stuck with the phrase "Who are we??" (in that preppy British school girl voice).still wondering what would happen to me if my parents did send me to Cheltenham Ladies College to do 'A' levels back then. I wouldn't have met Mr GT if I was there.
Sent the 1st brother off to the airport for his holiday to Brisbane. Now I have the use of his H. Civic for a week, whoopee! Since Mr GT is on 2 weeks leave, he'd be my personal chauffeur too.
I would have been able to go Brisbane if
not for the new job.
Eurgh, im having bad cramps. I hate that time of the month!
To my dear bestie, I am still alive! I got your email, will reply you with a rant of my own this weekend! =)
And with regards to the bestie's entry, so true now that you mention it, that whole me wearing MNG tee situation was blown out of proportion. The weird thing is I don't shop at Mango anymore, I can't even remember the last thing or time I went into the store. Hmm....but I still like their knits just like those at Zara as well.
Ok what have I been up to:
1) My dear Sharifah's mum passed away last Sunday after a fight with breast cancer. My condolences to her family. I visited her mum at SGH last Friday after work with Anna, Hasila and Huda.
2) On Saturday night went to Orchid Country Club for the wedding dinner of Din & Hajar. Din being Mr GT's SP and Dikir barat friend. Hajar is my 2nd sis in law's (shrek!) cousin and she was my senior back in NYP as well, just that she was in the Engineering side and active in tarian etc in MCG if I'm not wrong hence why we never met. But we seem to have mutual guy friends though.
So that was a 10 course dinner, I was so freaking full. Outfit for that night, my Future State black dress with a huge brooch pinned worn with the black floral lace tights from the bestie, complete with my black lace gloves (Yuyu babe, remember I got them when I was with you?? ), black Mary Janes and silver wristlet from River Island.
Din being a LTA in the army looks dashing in his ceremonial white military outfit and Hajar looks gorgeous as always like a princess.I know, I will upload pix soon.
Bumped into Fifi, who is Azizah from NYP's friend, they were always together back in poly days. And she happened to be the bridesmaid's best friend since sec school. AND the bridesmaid who is Hajar's sister (also 2nd SIL's cousin obv) used to date Mr GT's younger brother. Hmm...AND Mr GT's younger brother and his gf were the best man and 2nd bridesmaid respectively. The other best man was Hajar's younger brother. See, so intertwining.
3) Came back from the dinner, at 2am received the news from Sharifah. Was holding on to the hp, didn't know what to reply, couldn't sleep and at last fell asleep still holding the hp. Woke up and off to go "melawat" with the girls. Thereafter off to Din & Hajar's wedding to the guy's side to meet up with dear Elyn and Shahrul. =)
THEN was off to collect fabrics and then off to PS' Swensens to meet up with Azlin, Asri and lil Yana as well as my Cedar classmate, Kim Mui. To Kim Mui, who is off to Copenhagen,Denmark for work for the next 2 years, bon voyage. I'd miss you! Don't forget my Danish butter cookies courtesy of your company! =P
So yeap, that was my weekend. And I can't believe I have been working till 9.30pm++ the last 2 days. Sheesh.
At the rate I am going, I think I'd drop flat out of exhaustion. This last weekend was the same as the last as I had no rest. Since I was on 2 days MC where I had high fever, sore throat and later lost my voice (thank god for MSN communication at work). I recovered a lil of my voice by Saturday though, phew.
Friday night - watched Madagascar 2. It was ok, but I still prefer the first one, more original. Oh on this note, can I say enough about the whole 2 white tigers killing that zoo cleaner at Mandai Zoo already. He clearly wanted to commit suicide hence why he go and jumped into the freaking moat in the tigers' enclosure. And with their natural predator instinct and feeling protective of their territory and having been in captivity since 2001, you can't blame these Sumatran white tigers for attacking that guy. Geez. Why should there even be a debate over the tigers having to be put down? Nonsense!
Saturday - first it was off to Hani's house for her engagement. Congrats to Hani and Wandi!!! Yay! Hani was looking gorgeous in Royal Blue, though Mr GT, Suba and I were all togged out in Hani's favourite green colour. Finally bumped into J and the rest, Zana and Shalina, but too bad I couldn't stay long coz after the whole engagement process and eating, I was off to another wedding.
Was off to Juli and Rajis' wedding at Choa Chu Kang CC (if I am not wrong, hehe). I thought we were going to Rajis side on Sunday but apparently Mr GT wants to go to Juli's side too since she was his neighbour back in his Jurong days. And Juli was a senior in NYP too, what a small world, but she was from the Engineering side. Furthermore, I don't seem to mix with the girls from the other schools in NYP. Oh well but I seem to know more now when I am not in NYP anymore. weird.
Then it was off to Mr GT's place as they had a small gathering thingy.
Sunday - I was supposed to go with Mr GT to Rajis' place but since I already went yesterday I so need a couple of hours rest so I asked Mr GT to go ahead without me since his DK group will be performing anyway.
Met up with Mr GT's frenz gang at Marina Sq's Seoul Garden for dinner. Then we were off to taking loads of photos, complete with an SLR camera and tripod courtesy of Mr GT's younger brother, at the new Marina Barrage all the way till midnight, as if we were all not working today. But it was fun....fun waiting for the water to come out so we can get nice shots and also of jumping up and down to get motion shots. Heh. I heard about another photoshoot coming up...
I attended my company's Dinner & Dance last Saturday. The theme: Back to School. So my table came up with the idea of a symphony band, calling ourselves Solid Symphonix.
Yes, that's why the erm "mak2 budak" are dressed as budak2 sekolah. hehe. So cute right? I missed out on the pix of other tables, there are the NCC, the preppy sch, the sports club, convent girls etc. Even our Managing Director and his wife came togged in their table's dress code - NCC.
Venue: Sheraton Towers
Time: 6.30pm - 1.00am
Overall, it was FUN FUN FUN!!! Our table won the Best Dressed Table with another table, it was a tie since they couldn't make up their mind and we received $1000 vouchers. Full of games, with people buzzed with alcohol, it was so hilarious!! And after that it was dance time all the way past midnight.
Post effect: I had my time of the month come on Sunday, and it was a painful affair. Must be the free flow of Coke and the jumping up and down while dancing on stage. Oh well it was worth it!
On Sunday, Dyna invited me to her wedding, but when we arrived late due to the rain, I decided to just buzz my buddy, Ariff for Adi's address and go to the guy's side instead. Met the gorgeous bride and groom there and bumped into my buddy as well.Selamat Pengantin Baru to Dayana Asmalina (hehe, yes Dy, I just can't help spelling out your full name) and Yuhadi (I can't believed that Roslan tersasul Adi's name..sheesh!)!!
